I experienced my first-ever Bonfire Night last Saturday. Now I will always remember the 5th of November.
What I liked best about Bonfire Night:
- It involved fire.
- It offers tremendous fireworks displays at a time of year that makes good sense – when it gets dark early and is fairly wet. (Here, at least.)
- It has history – the tradition goes all the way back to 1605.
What I liked least about Bonfire Night:
- The Bonfires have been pretty much doused out in favor of the fireworks. (Though the fireworks are spectacular.)
- It has history – it is essentially the commemoration of burning Guy Fawkes (a traitor) at the stake. (Pretty gruesome if you actually think about it.)
